Government support has become need of the hour to bring handloom and handicraft industry out of trouble in Jammu & Kashmir, India. The industry has been facing hardship due to 2016 unrest in the state and 2014 flood. This was stated by Nizamududdin Bhat, Vice Chairman, Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporations.
These two incidents damaged the infrastructure and adversely hit production and sales of the handloom and handicraft goods. Delay in acknowledging the economic viability and employability of the two sectors has added fuel to fire.
Bhat expressed gratitude towards workers, staff and officers for their resilience who he said are grappling with hardships to raise the stock of the corporations and lend these the desired status of income generating units.
